Visitors to Clark County, Arkansas quickly appreciate the many unique qualities and attractions that make it an extraordinary place to come back to again and again.  Its combination of rich history, modern city amenities, friendly people, and outstanding natural beauty make it an exceptional place to visit, live, and work.

Located along the state’s southwest section of Interstate 30, Clark County is home and a gateway to some of the best vacation attractions and natural settings in Arkansas.  Visitors can relax and enjoy any of 18 Army Corps of Engineers camping and recreation areas around DeGray Lake, a 13,800-acre jewel known as one of Arkansas’ five “Diamond Lakes”.  Launch a boat from any one of 19 public boat ramps and enjoy skiing, fishing, or just relax within the pristine scenery.  The Caddo River, which feeds DeGray, is also a popular location for canoeing and tube floating.

DeGray Lake is also home to DeGray Lake Resort State Park and Iron Mountain Lodge and Marina, both with full-service marinas, boat & watercraft rentals, conference centers, and modern lakeside lodging & cabins.

For mountain bikers, the Iron Mountain Trail offers more than 24 miles of well-maintained, fairly smooth biking trails just to the south of DeGray Lake; and hikers can enjoy many easy to moderate hikes overlooking the Ouachita River and in other natural scenic areas.

The county’s rich history and landmarks make it popular for many visitors.   Initially part of Missouri Territory, Clark County predates the formation of Arkansas Territory in 1819, became one of Arkansas’ original five counties, and was later the scene of many documented battles and skirmishes of the Civil War. The Clark County Courthouse, completed in 1899, is an historical treasure and still houses most of the county’s current government offices.  The Clark County Historical Association operates a local museum in Arkadelphia with fascinating exhibits and welcomes visitors year-round.

When passing this way, be sure to stop at the Diamond Lakes Regional Visitor Center at 126 Valley Street in Caddo Valley for a large collection of attraction brochures and local event information, restrooms, and refreshments.
